Description
The year is 2187 and the Directorate holds the frontier colonies with machines. As Rourke Vance, smuggler and mercenary pilot, fly a gunship with six degrees of freedom over four occupied worlds of tropics, desert, tundra and canyons, and level every radar station, power plant, robot factory and flak turret. When the last installation falls, whatever is still moving shuts down with it.
Archive notes
The page calls itself an in-engine prototype, v0.5. Its changelog runs from a first playable build (0.1) through a rename to BLACK VECTOR with new logo and cockpit art (0.2), mouse steering and a burning-wreck death camera (0.3) and a 1990s web page skin (0.4) to new Settings and Pilot Manual dialogs (0.5); the earlier name is not recorded. Everything is drawn by hand-written JavaScript into a pixel buffer, with no WebGL: the terrain uses the Voxel Space technique associated with Comanche, while ships and robots are flat-shaded polygons that hide correctly behind hills. Worlds and weather are generated anew each run, and the soundtrack is composed live. The render resolution can be set to 320×240, 640×480 or 800×600. A single-file copy of the whole game is kept in dist/black-vector.html.
