Description
A one-minute flight over a procedural landscape drawn on an 80×25 text screen in 64 colours, with half-block characters and no bitmaps at all. Five scenes run from a sunrise through a copper canyon and a mirror lake to an aurora and a pulsing tower on the last summit, to a PC speaker soundtrack. Free camera and glitch modes, and a hex seed that rebuilds the same world every time.
Archive notes
Signed RIDGE64.EXE V1.0 by Microscene Division (VECTOR, BEEPER, LUMEN). Its FILE_ID.DIZ gives third place in the PC intro compo of STEPPE '94, a small party held near Kharkiv in August 1994, and promises a sequel, RIDGE/256, which never surfaced. The party rules reportedly kept every screen in text mode. According to the bundled README, the surviving copy was rebuilt from a damaged 3.5" floppy found at the Petrivka book market in Kyiv in 2025, labelled "KVANT / DEMKY / NE FORMATUVATY" (Ukrainian, transliterated: "Kvant / demos / do not format"); where the executable could not be read, the missing parts were redone in its spirit. The surviving copy has one quirk: pressing Space while the boot text is still on screen trips an error in the greetings scroller, and the title screen stalls for a few frames before it carries on. Append ?seed= and a hex value to the address to share a world.
