AN AMIGA BOING BALL TRIBUTE
256 COLORS / SOFTWARE 3D
An original homage to the Boing Ball demonstration that Dale Luck and R. J. Mical wrote for the Amiga, first shown in January 1984. The code, geometry, music and sound here are new and synthesized live in your browser. Not affiliated with or endorsed by any Amiga rights holder.
Imagined as a high-end 1995 PC demo for an ordinary 2D SVGA card, no 3D accelerator: an 8-bit indexed virtual framebuffer (512 x 384, 320 x 240 or 256 x 192), scaled up with nearest-neighbour sampling, with one 256-entry palette and 4 × 4 ordered dithering, filled by a CPU triangle rasterizer (edge functions, perspective-correct interpolation, near-plane clipping, Z-buffer). Canvas 2D only shows the finished pixels. It is a web page, not a DOS executable, and not a literal 64 KB binary.
Five acts, 36 bars at 136 BPM, about 63.5 seconds. The music is composed for the picture and synthesized live with Web Audio; nothing is pre-recorded.
