LOST BUILDS

Why This Archive Exists

Finished games hide their history. By release day the strange ideas have been cut, the broken versions overwritten and the first sketch is gone.

Prototypes keep it. A rough build shows the idea before anyone smoothed it out, and it is often the most interesting version.

Every state counts

LOST BUILDS keeps builds in whatever state they reached:

  • experiments that only test one technical idea;
  • prototypes whose core loop works while the rest is missing;
  • playable builds you can actually finish;
  • archived builds that will not be touched again;
  • graduated builds that left to become their own projects.

A build that failed is still a record of something tried. A build that graduated still has its first chapter here.

Why issues

The file list is complete but flat: every entry looks equally important. Issues are the curated layer on top of it, a short history told through the builds that changed the direction of the archive.

A new issue comes out only when there is something worth telling, not with every software release.
